Wei Yang, Ph.D. in Chinese art and Tibetan Art , consults and appraises Asian Art with a concentration on Chinese art. Dr. Yang has decided to work less and write more starting in the second half of 2025, although she will continue to stay engaged. Her passion for Asian art and her dedication to the excellence of professional valuation services remain intact. In order to should less professional obligations, Dr. Yang is ready to let go her two professional ASA designations- Accredited Senior Appraiser in Asian art (ASA, 2010-2025) and Accredited Senior Appraiser in Appraisal Review and Management (ARM, 2017-2025)- designated by American Society of Appraisers. With a set of unique skills essential to the valuation of Asian Art, Dr. Yang continues to offer consultation of Asian art in the form of Preview My Artwork because she believes that owners of Asian art deserve some professional compassion or generosity. Dr. Yang is a qualified art specialist with a set of unique skills, credentials and experience unmatched in the field. She earned a B.A. in art history in 1997, M.A. in Asian art in 1998 from Smith College (Northampton, MA) and a Ph.D. in Chinese art and Tibetan Art in 2005 from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL). In 2010, she received a certificate of Fine Art and Decorative Arts Appraisal from Prett Institute (New York) and two specialty ASA designations- Accredited Senior Appraiser in Asian art (ASA, 2010) and Appraisal Review and Management (ARM, 2017)- from American Society of Appraisers. Dr. Yang specializes in most forms of Asian Art, with a focus on Chinese art. She is particularly strong in classical Chinese painting and calligraphy, ceramics, jade, antique furniture and textile, Buddhist art. With a certificate of Scoll Conservation, she has the ability to identify most forgery methods adopted by forgers on fake antique Chinese paintings, analyze the adequacy of the restored fine art on paper and silk. In addition, she speaks and reads a few Asian languages (native Chinese trained in classical Chinese scripts, fluent in modern Chinese, speak and read Japanese and some Tibetan). She reads different Chinese calligraphic scripts (signature and seals) on classical Chinese paintings.
Dr. Yang is a lifelong Chinese art educator and writer. (Books by Wei Yang). She is an independent Chinese art historian, Art Appraiser, Review Appraiser. She had dedicated 15 years to the art education in the largest Buddhist Center in the world, Dunhuang Research Academy (Gansu, China) before she started Smith College. After receiving her B.A. degree in art history (1997), M.A. in Asian art (1998) from Smith College and Ph.D. in Chinese art and Tibetan Art (2005) from Northwestern University, she has been serving as Asian art appraiser since 2005 and expert witness for litigation since 2015. She brings integrity, professional training, competence in multiple fields, and impartiality to her work.

Wei Yang, Ph.D., is a trained Chinese art expert with advanced degrees and years of hand-on working experience. She has been consulting and appraising Chinese art since 2005. She gave lectures on the authenticity of Chinese painting and calligraphy and the carving methods of Chinese Jade. She has prepared appraisal for estate affairs, insurance and taxation, etc. She serves as consulting and testifying expert witness for litigation since 2015 and appraisal review specialist since 2017. After receiving a B.A. in art history in 1997, Dr. Yang broadened her understanding of other Asian cultures and artistic aesthetics by earning a M.A. degree in Asian art in 1998, with a focus on Asian Buddhist art, from Smith College. Her master thesis is on Tibetan Tantric Buddhist art of 13th-14th century. Her training on other forms of Asian art centered on Japanese woodblock prints, literati painting and Buddhist art, Korean literati painting, and Buddhist painting and sculpture from India, China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, the Himalayas and Central Asia. Her field work in Asia became the foundation for her in-depth research interest in painting methods and techniques, art criticism, cultural history and religious interchange among different cultures and ethnicities. Over the past thirty years, Dr. Yang has worked with museum collections all over the world and conducted field research throughout Asia, which equipped her with hand-on experience essential to the appraisal of Asian art.

Dr. Yang treasures professional honesty in providing art valuation services. She limits her Asian art consultation and appraisal practice to the areas in which she has received advanced training. She conducts research and undertakes in-person investigation based on her research strength, knowledge and experience. Although accredited as Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) in Asian Art by American Society of Appraisers, she defines her proficiency more narrowly because she believes that the depth of expertise and the mastery of unique skills matter the most in providing quality Asian art consultation and appraisal. She consults and appraises most forms of Chinese art except for bronzes and some forms of Asian art for which she is qualified, such as Japanese woodblock prints, fine arts and decorative arts from Japan, literati painting from Korea and Buddhist art from India, China, Southeast Asia, the Himalayas, Korea and Japan.

Wei Yang, Ph.D., provides expert witness services concentrating on Chinese art, especially classical Chinese panting and calligraphy prior to 1911, which was the focus of her Ph.D. training and dissertation topic. She received special training in stylistic analysis of the quality of craftsmanship, the execution of traditional Chinese painting methods or writing techniques and the choice of paper and silk if suitable to the time period indicated by the work in question. She is a trained Chinese art historian (Ph.D.), skilled in reading different calligraphic scripts and identifying a painter's signature and seals essential to shed light on authenticity. She has served as consulting and testifying expert witness for litigations concerning authenticity, insurance settlement and taxation dispute.
